Cable Hiding Technology

Updated

Cable Hiding Technology is TMT’s name for a built-in module design feature related to the wire between LED modules. This article summarises TMT’s description, the products that list it, and how the patent status is worded. It reports TMT’s claims and does not assess them.

What TMT says it is

TMT describes Cable Hiding as a built-in design that lets installers adjust the gap between modules while keeping excess wire behind the module, so that wires do not cast shadows on the sign face and no extra parts are needed (tmtleds.com Technology). The Midi 3 datasheet words it similarly: installers can adjust module spacing, “securing excess wire behind the module without needing separate holders, clips or silicone” (Midi 3 datasheet).

Module chains are supplied with a standard spacing that TMT says can be changed on request, for example 150 mm for Mini 2 and 200 mm for Midi 3 on the global pages (tmtleds.com Mini 2; tmtleds.com Midi 3). The cable-hiding feature is presented as a way to shorten the effective gap during installation (tmtleds.com Technology).

Products listing Cable Hiding

Product Wording in source Source
Mini 2 “Innovative Cable Hiding Technology (patent pending)” US Mini 2 datasheet; Mini 2 datasheet
Mini 3 Cable Hiding Technology (Patent Pending) Mini 3 datasheet
Midi 3 Cable Hiding Technology (Patent Pending) Midi 3 datasheet
Midi 4 Listed in datasheet features Midi 4 datasheet
Midi Edge Cable Hiding Technology (Patent Pending) Midi Edge datasheet

The Midi 3 datasheet states that the feature is included in the Midi Series modules generally (Midi 3 datasheet).

Patent status

TMT describes Cable Hiding as patent pending on its Technology page and in its datasheets (tmtleds.com Technology; Midi Edge datasheet). No patent or application number is given in the TMT sources reviewed.

One distributor describes the design as “patented” for Mini 3 Silver (Partners Ltd Mini 3 Silver). This differs from TMT’s own “patent pending” wording; this site follows the manufacturer’s wording and does not state that a patent has been granted.

The same datasheet feature lists include Efficient Circuit Design and Clean White Technology (Mini 3 datasheet). The Midi Stick snap-in profile, also described as patent pending, is a separate feature (Midi 3 datasheet).
