Constant Current and Constant Voltage in TMT Sources

TMT sources use the terms “constant current” and “constant voltage” when describing how its LED modules are driven. TMT does not present constant current as a separately branded technology, and its sources are not fully consistent about which modules use which driving method. This article sets out what each source says.

Driving options on product pages

The global product pages list “Driving Options: Constant Current or Constant Voltage” for most modules, for example Midi 3 and Slim (tmtleds.com Midi 3; tmtleds.com Slim). The same pair of options appears in the model filters for Mini 2, Mini 3, Midi 4 and Tiny (tmtleds.com Mini 2; tmtleds.com Mini 3; tmtleds.com Midi 4; tmtleds.com Tiny).

What the datasheets say

Datasheets are more specific, and they do not all agree with the web filters:

Product Datasheet header wording Source
Midi 3 CONSTANT CURRENT, 12V DC Midi 3 datasheet
Mini 3 CONSTANT VOLTAGE Mini 3 datasheet
Tiny CONSTANT VOLTAGE Tiny datasheet

For Mini 3 and Tiny, “Constant Current” appears only as a web filter option, while the datasheets say constant voltage (tmtleds.com Mini 3; Mini 3 datasheet; tmtleds.com Tiny; Tiny datasheet). The filter may describe options available on request, or it may be a template default; TMT does not say which. For that reason, this site does not tag Tiny with constant current.

TMT’s installation guidance

The US FAQ recommends splitting loads on constant-current products so that they reach full performance without light loss (usa.tmtleds.com FAQ). The FAQ is the only TMT source reviewed that gives installation guidance specific to constant-current products.

Power supplies

The TMT power supplies reviewed are all described as constant-voltage units. The global category lists the OMS-EP series as constant-voltage LED drivers (tmtleds.com Power Supplies). The US Class 2 power supply datasheets state a constant-voltage mode (12 V 120 W Class 2 datasheet; 24 V 100 W Class 2 datasheet). The LDM pages on tmtledsusa.com list “Constant Voltage Output” (LDM060-1205-C21). No TMT source reviewed explains how a module marked “constant current” in its header bar is meant to be combined with these constant-voltage power supplies; readers should check the relevant datasheet or ask TMT.
