Wide-Angle Lens

Updated

“Wide-angle lens” is a generic description, not a TMT brand name. In the TMT sources reviewed, wide beam angles are presented as a property of the CrystaLens optics rather than as a separate technology (tmtleds.com Technology). This short page collects the beam angles TMT states so they can be compared.

How TMT words it

TMT’s Technology page describes CrystaLens as giving a wider light-dispersion angle so that fewer modules are needed (tmtleds.com Technology). The Mini 3 Game Player page refers to optics with a wide angle of more than 160° (tmtleds.com Mini 3). The US Midi 4 page mentions CrystaLens optics with a wide 170° beam angle (usa.tmtleds.com Midi 4).

Stated beam angles

Product Stated beam angle Source
Mini 2 160° Mini 2 datasheet
Mini 3 160° Mini 3 datasheet
Midi 3 160° Midi 3 datasheet
Midi 4 170° Midi 4 datasheet
Tiny 170° × 130° tmtleds.com Tiny
Midi Edge 20° × 45° / 18° × 40° / 15° × 45° (sources differ) Midi Edge datasheet; usa.tmtleds.com Midi Edge

The Midi Edge is the exception: it uses a narrow, asymmetric beam aimed across a lightbox from its edge, not a wide angle (Midi Edge datasheet). See Edge lighting.

Why this page exists

This site’s technology list includes a “wide-angle lens” tag for readers searching by that term. Because TMT does not brand a separate wide-angle technology, the tag should be read as “TMT states a wide beam angle”, with the source for each figure on the product page. No patent claim is associated with wide-angle optics in the TMT sources reviewed (tmtleds.com Technology).
